What Is Blow Moulding and How Does It Work?

As outlined by Sachin Thorat in LearnMech’s article “Blow moulding – Process, advantages and Disadvantages,” blow moulding remains one of the most widely used processes for manufacturing hollow plastic components, from everyday bottles to complex automotive fuel tanks. This method is especially efficient for producing seamless, lightweight structures from thermoplastics. 

Blow moulding is a process in which plastic is melted and formed into a tube-like shape called a parison—or a preform in the case of injection-based processes. Air is then blown into the parison, expanding it against the mold walls to create the desired hollow shape. Once cooled, the mold is opened and the product is ejected. This method is also used for forming glass bottles and other hollow forms.
