How Mold Structure Impacts Plastic Forming

As shared by Market Prospects in their article “What are the Male Mold and Female Mold, mold structures are essential to the forming process, typically divided into two main types: the male (protruding) mold and the female (concave) mold. These components work together to shape materials into precise parts for use in manufacturing.

In most forming and stamping operations, the mold assembly is made up of two or more parts. The female mold, also known as the cavity, features a concave shape, while the male mold, or core, is convex. The interaction between these two molds enables the sheet material to be shaped, punched, or pressed with high precision. These mold pairs are fundamental in producing even the simplest of parts, such as washers, which can be created in a single punch operation.
